What is WCAG compliance?
WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) is an international standard that helps make websites accessible to people with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities. The most commonly used version is WCAG 2.1, with Level AA as the standard benchmark for compliance.
Why it matters:
- It meets legal obligations (e.g., EU Accessibility Act, ADA, EN 301 549)
- It makes e-commerce usable for more people
- It improves SEO, usability, and user trust
CloudSuite develops its standard Mosaic Templates in line with the principles of WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). Our goal is to support customers in creating online storefronts that can meet the expectations of the European Accessibility Act (EAA), where applicable.
What you can expect from CloudSuite
- All new features and improvements in Mosaic are developed with WCAG guidelines in mind.
- Accessibility-related updates are included in the latest versions of our standard templates.
- New themes and storefront frameworks are actively designed with digital accessibility as a core principle.
What remains the responsibility of the customer (or partner)
- CloudSuite customers are fully responsible for complying with the EAA and any local legislation that may apply to their webshop.
- If a shop uses custom templates, partner-built themes, or third-party extensions, accessibility compliance is the responsibility of the customer or their implementation partner.
- CloudSuite does not conduct accessibility audits for custom work or external modules, unless explicitly agreed in advance.
Important note on applicability
The European Accessibility Act applies specifically to B2C businesses with an annual turnover above €2 million and more than 10 employees. Not all webshops are legally required to comply. However, accessible design is recommended as a best practice, and some customers or markets may still demand compliance.
